The County partnered with CPL to design the new Community Outpatient Clinic. Working closely with property management consultants Carnegie Management, our healthcare team devised a project timeline that facilitated the construction of the 25,500 sq. ft. facility adjacent to the existing clinic. This strategic approach enabled seamless operation of both facilities, ensuring uninterrupted veteran care.
Thoughtful space planning was critical in designing an efficient clinic that intuitively guides visitors and staff through various primary care and specialty health specialties, including mental health, women’s health, nutrition counseling, podiatry, laboratory services, vision care and more.
Upon entry, visitors are greeted by a spacious lobby boasting high ceilings and ample natural light streaming through clerestory windows, creating an open, inviting atmosphere.
Serving as the central hub, the lobby features freestanding kiosks for streamlined patient check-ins, alongside traditional staff-manned stations for check-in and check-out.
Key service spaces, such as advanced imaging areas with the latest diagnostic technology, laboratories and exam rooms, are strategically positioned along four main corridors, each distinguished by color-coded walls to enhance navigation for both patients and staff.
Additionally, interior selections, including natural wood finishes and a calming color palette, contribute to a soothing aesthetic throughout the clinic.
Centralized staff areas are integrated to promote swift access and care coordination throughout the clinic. Furnished with modern amenities such as fully equipped workstations, lounges and offices, these areas offer staff a much-needed place for respite.
Designed with sustainability in mind, the outpatient clinic earned a Green Globes Certification and won the Cleveland 2030 District 2021 Green Building Challenge.
A cornerstone of the community, the Lorain Veterans Affairs Community Outpatient Clinic provides continuous healthcare services to veterans and their families in Northeast Ohio, underscoring the VA’s dedication to enhanced and accessible care for retired military personnel.
