Union County Public Schools (UCPS) partnered with CPL to breathe new life into Monroe High School’s turf field and track, which had endured years of wear and tear from numerous athletic programs and events.

Before design, our K-12 team, along with athletic consultant FitFields, conducted a thorough assessment of the existing turf and track areas. This evaluation laid the groundwork for developing design solutions that improved the facility’s safety, longevity and aesthetics.

Intentional upgrades included the installation of new synthetic turf as well as the resurfacing of the worn-out eight-lane track to establish a more vibrant and uniform finish, reducing the risk of runner injuries. Additionally, the track and field jump areas were re-graded to address drainage concerns and create a level surface suitable for a variety of sports activities.

Design goals also extended to the incorporation of critical infrastructure. This encompassed the integration of communication box runs and conduits for future electrical needs and potable water couplers on the sidelines. We also managed the installation of scoreboard signage, aligning it with the facility’s newly prominent “Redhawks” branding and red color scheme.

This field, serving as the venue for graduation ceremonies and hosting neighboring high school sports teams, has become the district’s benchmark for future athletic renovations. Working together, UCPS and CPL revitalized Monroe High School’s turf field and track, creating a more durable and visually appealing space that not only bolsters the school’s athletic programs but also fosters pride and unity among the students and the community.
