As part of an $11 million design-build program to modernize six aging facilities within the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System, Adams Park Library was transformed into a more welcoming, accessible and contemporary community resource.

CPL provided design leadership throughout planning, design and construction in collaboration with design-build partner CT Darnell Construction and interior design specialist 720Design.
Inspired by the library’s setting, the renovation embraced a “Library in the Park” concept that strengthens the relationship between the building and its surrounding landscape.
Seating was strategically positioned along the interior window perimeter, giving patrons direct views of the site’s native trees and plantings and creating inviting places to read, study and gather while maintaining a visual connection to nature.
The surrounding landscape also influenced the character of the interior environment. Varied shades of green, natural references and refreshed finishes reinforce the park-inspired identity while contributing to a calm, welcoming atmosphere. These elements work together to give Adams Park Library a distinct sense of place reflective of its unique setting and community.
As part of the broader library modernization program, improvements also addressed the evolving functional and accessibility needs of a contemporary public library while enhancing the overall performance and longevity of the existing facility. Sustainability remained an important consideration throughout the design and construction process, and the completed Adams Park Library achieved LEED Silver certification.
The renewed facility extends the life of an important neighborhood resource while creating a brighter, more engaging environment where the community can read, learn, connect and experience the unique qualities of its park setting.
