As part of an $11 million design-build program to modernize six aging facilities within the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System, the Ponce de Leon Library was transformed into a more welcoming, accessible and contemporary community resource.

CPL provided design leadership throughout planning, design and construction in collaboration with design-build partner CT Darnell Construction and interior design specialist 720Design.
Located in a neighborhood known for its creative, eclectic character, the library’s renewal was shaped by the community it serves. Art and local expression became central to the design, with murals showcasing the work of area artists and bohemian-inspired colors, textures and finishes incorporated throughout the facility. These elements give the library a distinct sense of place while reinforcing an atmosphere of creativity, inclusivity and discovery.
The renovation also addressed the evolving functional needs of a modern public library. Optimized seating and dedicated areas for adults, teens and children provide greater choice in how patrons read, learn, gather and connect.
Improvements to building systems and technology, ADA accessibility and site conditions enhance the facility’s performance and usability, while updated finishes and furnishings create a brighter, more engaging environment.
Sustainability was integrated throughout the planning and design process as part of the broader library modernization program. The completed Ponce de Leon Library achieved LEED Silver certification, pairing improved building performance with a design that authentically reflects the neighborhood’s identity. The result extends the life of an important community asset while creating a flexible, inclusive destination for learning, creativity and connection.
