CHARLOTTE, NC — CPL, a full-service design firm serving public and private-sector clients for more than 49 years, is pleased to welcome Aaron Cordle, Burklund Edwards, EIT, Nour Majzoub, AIA, Shelby Sims and Gabrielle Steffel, AIA, to its offices in North Carolina.
Joining the firm’s Charlotte, NC, office as an Architectural Designer, Cordle will leverage his diverse skill set to contribute to transformative projects. His responsibilities will include developing forward-thinking design solutions, integrating sustainable practices and enhancing the firm’s commitment to architectural excellence.
Prior to CPL, Cordle was an Architectural Intern at DLR Group in Charlotte. He earned his Master of Architecture degree from Clemson University, where he also completed his BA in Architecture with a Minor in Spanish Studies. His academic achievements include a nomination for the AIA SC Award and honors such as the 4th Year Faculty Design Award and Undergraduate Prize in Design Honorable Mention.
As a BSE Designer on the firm’s Community Civic Buildings National team, Burklund will leverage his solid foundation in Revit, AutoCAD and HAP load calculation software to enhance the design and performance of civic projects. Working out of CPL’s Greensboro, NC, office, his role will also encompass partnering with multidisciplinary teams to deliver forward-thinking, sustainable solutions for a variety of civic building clients.
Prior to his new role at CPL, Burklund served as an HVAC Design Engineer at M/E Engineering, P.C., in Buffalo, NY. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Alabama and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Business Analytics at Purdue University. An Engineer in Training (EIT), Burkland has passed the FE exam and is preparing for the PE exam.
Joining the firm as an Architect in the Raleigh, NC, office, Majzoub will oversee schematic design and construction documentation, manage site visits and coordinate effectively with consultants and contractors. She is recognized for her thoughtful approach to design management and ability to efficiently address complex construction challenges.
Before coming to CPL, Majzoub was an Architectural Designer at GUND Partnership. She holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies from the University of Toronto. Majzoub is a member of the American Institute of Architects and is currently completing her ARE exams, with her license application under review by the NC Board of Architecture.
Sims joins the firm’s Community Civic Buildings National team as an Interior Designer. Working out of the Greensboro office, she will utilize the hands-on knowledge she gained from her internship experience at CPL to develop detailed interior designs that truly make a difference in the communities she serves.
Sims holds a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Appalachian State University, where she actively participated in the Interior Design Club and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) as a student member.
Also operating from the firm’s Greensboro office, Steffel will work with the Community Civic Buildings National team as an Architectural Project Manager II. She will oversee projects from conceptual design through completion, ensuring that each initiative aligns with CPL’s commitment to excellence and sustainability.
A seasoned Project Manager, Steffel was the Director and Project Manager at Cluck Design Collaborative in Charlotte, NC. She holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Oregon, where she also earned an Ecological Design Certificate, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture with a minor in Interactive Media Studies from Miami University. Her professional qualifications are complemented by her AIA membership.
