University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Schizophrenia Outpatient Clinic Renovation

‹ Portfolio

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Schizophrenia Outpatient Clinic is located on the third floor of a building dedicated solely to mental healthcare services. To modernize its outdated facilities and align branding with other UPMC spaces offering similar services, CPL’s healthcare team helped envision a series of strategic upgrades.

During this project’s creative planning phase, stakeholder engagement played a pivotal role in envisioning an outpatient clinic that could serve a dual purpose: offer a safe and calming place of respite for behavioral health patients and provide a productive work environment for staff and physicians to treat them.

Achieving this vision involved updating a variety of the clinic’s core spaces, including the lobby, waiting areas, hallways, check-in and check-out areas, administrative offices, staff lounges, conference rooms and the mailroom. With each design decision aiming to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, the clinic features an intentional selection of wooden furniture, teal accent walls, abundant seating options and new flooring throughout.

The project also introduced an expanded waiting room for the outpatient clinic with additional reception and check-out windows, enhancing efficiency and offering visitors more space to congregate in. These thoughtful renovations were crafted in partnership with UPMC leaders to significantly elevate the work environment for staff members and improve each patient’s experience.
