For generations, the Southwestern Central School District has served as a cornerstone of the Jamestown community—a place where academic excellence and hometown pride go hand in hand. In response, the district launched an ambitious $18.2 million Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) to modernize infrastructure, elevate student experiences, and reinforce the district’s commitment to lifelong learning. The CIP focused on three core priorities: transforming the high school cafeteria into a dynamic, student-centered hub; modernizing critical building systems for long-term resilience; and reimagining administrative offices to enhance security, efficiency and the visitor experience.

At the district office, 9,000 sq. ft. of underutilized space was reconfigured to create a more functional and professional environment. A secure, access-controlled vestibule replaced the outdated intercom system, establishing a more welcoming and dignified point of entry. Inside, the new layout features dedicated conference rooms, staff workspaces and a thoughtfully designed waiting area.
The high school’s main office received a parallel transformation, streamlining day-to-day operations while incorporating modern security features and collaborative meeting spaces.
Additionally, the high school cafeteria underwent one of the most dramatic changes with 1,700 sq. ft. of added space, allowing the kitchen to move forward into the dining area and enabling an open-concept layout with a collegiate atmosphere.

A glass wall now divides the space, creating a flexible-use zone ideal for study halls, group work and community events. Modern seating, integrated technology and an adjacent outdoor patio further extends the space, providing students with a variety of options for dining, studying and socializing during warmer months.

Beyond aesthetics, the CIP addressed vital infrastructure upgrades across the district. These include new HVAC and boiler systems, modernized bathrooms and lockers, elevator installation for improved accessibility, and enhancements to athletic facilities such as upgraded turf fields.
More than just a surface-level refresh, this revitalization breathed new life into beloved campus fixtures. By creating inclusive, future-ready environments, the Southwestern Central School District has reinvested in its most valuable asset—its people. The result is a renewed campus that empowers learning, fosters connection, and ensures the district remains a vibrant center of education for generations to come.
