CPL began with utilization studies of the County’s existing properties, programs and services, using those findings to develop a program and evaluate options for renovating and expanding the existing facility versus constructing a new recreation center.
Following this analysis, the County elected to reinvest in its existing seven-acre site through a significant renovation and 17,500 sq. ft. expansion that nearly doubled the size of the recreation center. CPL provided architecture, interior design, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering services, bringing the disciplines together to create a more functional, welcoming and versatile community facility.
The expansion introduces a second gymnasium, a spacious fitness center with abundant natural light, rebuilt and expanded locker and shower facilities, a new lobby and additional storage. Existing areas were also refreshed to create a more cohesive experience between old and new while allowing the facility to accommodate a broader range of recreational programs, activities and age groups.
Improvements extend beyond the building with a new splash pad designed to provide younger residents and families with an engaging outdoor recreation amenity. The team also explored opportunities for RV parking and utility hookups to better accommodate visitors traveling to the community for baseball tournaments and other events.
By pairing thoughtful planning with integrated architecture, interior design and engineering, the project maximizes the value of the County’s existing assets while significantly expanding recreational opportunities for residents. The renewed center provides Colleton County with a flexible, multi-generational community destination designed to support recreation, wellness and connection for years to come.
