From Survey to Success: Enhancing Educational Facilities with Building Condition Insights

A Building Condition Survey (BCS) goes far beyond meeting compliance with the New York State Education Department.

It serves as a valuable opportunity to enhance educational programs, create safer learning environments, and improve the overall performance of your facilities.

This was the case for the Cuba-Rushford Central School District, who partnered with us to realize these transformative goals. Through their BCS, we conducted a comprehensive campus-wide survey that included building system evaluations, safety audits of visitor entries, detailed infrared studies of electrical panels, and building envelope assessments.

The building condition survey results highlighted aging infrastructure and equipment, underscoring the need for proactive measures to address emerging issues before they became costly challenges.

With Cuba-Rushford’s goals for asset preservation and program development in mind, we helped develop a five-year strategy that prioritized both large-scale projects and smaller upgrades, designed to be flexible and scalable across different funding streams.

One of the standout projects from our collaboration was the creation of dynamic STEAM classrooms to support the evolving Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math curriculum. These modern, laboratory-style environments were designed to integrate core academics with hands-on, practical learning, fostering cognitive skill development. Equipped with advanced technology infrastructure and flexible teaching layouts, these classrooms accommodate various learning formats and support multiple concurrent activities, enhancing student engagement and collaboration.

Additional highlights of our collaboration included:

  • Expanded Special Education Programs: Facilities upgrades to better meet the diverse needs of all students.
  • New Indoor Walking Track: A resource for both students and the broader community to promote wellness and physical activity.
  • Energy-Efficient Upgrades: Initiatives to reduce operational costs while improving environmental sustainability.

By leveraging the insights from the BCS, we helped Cuba-Rushford align their infrastructure investments with their educational goals.
