A New Home for the Lady Canes: Cartersville Opens Dellinger Park Softball Complex

CARTERSVILLE, GA — For the Cartersville Lady Canes, July 30 marked more than the start of a new season. It marked the beginning of a new era for softball in Cartersville.

The City of Cartersville and Cartersville City Schools officially opened the new Dellinger Park Softball Complex with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, community tours and the Lady Canes’ first scrimmage on their new home field. Designed by CPL, the competition-ready complex gives Cartersville’s middle and high school softball programs a dedicated home while expanding recreational opportunities for the broader community.

The project reimagined two existing grass baseball fields as dedicated turf softball fields, transforming the site into a cohesive complex designed around the experience of athletes, coaches and spectators. Improvements include upgraded field lighting, new perimeter fencing, grandstand seating, an outfield spirit bleacher, improved emergency access and a signature arched entrance that creates a distinct sense of arrival.

At the heart of the complex is a new, approximately 3,000-square-foot home-team fieldhouse designed specifically for the Lady Canes. Locker rooms, showers, a coaches’ office, two batting cages, equipment storage and supporting spaces give players and staff the resources they need to prepare, train and compete—all within steps of their home field.

CPL provided architecture, landscape architecture and site design services for the project, including the field layouts, circulation routes, bleacher pads, landscaping and fieldhouse. What began as a relatively straightforward field improvement evolved through close collaboration with city and school representatives into a comprehensive vision for the site—one that balances the needs of competitive athletics with the park’s role as a community recreation destination.

Pennant Construction served as construction manager at risk, with ASG completing turf construction, Southern Bleachers providing spectator seating and Musco supplying field lighting.

CPL team members Mack Cain, Catherine Newberry, Cyndee Bonacci, Alex West, James Puckhaber, Chris Forest and Tim Pulver joined city and school representatives, Lady Canes players and families, project partners and community members to celebrate the complex’s opening.

More than a new place to play, the Dellinger Park Softball Complex represents a shared investment in student-athletes, girls athletics and the future of recreation in Cartersville. For the Lady Canes, it is a place to compete, grow and build traditions of their own. For the community, it is a revitalized destination designed to serve athletes and families for seasons to come.
