CPL provided architecture and interior design services for the unit, creating a patient-centered environment that balances clinical efficiency, staff visibility, safety and comfort.
The unit is organized around a central nursing hub, providing care teams with clear sightlines to patient rooms and supporting efficient workflows and responsive care. Patient rooms were thoughtfully designed to provide the clinical functionality needed for postoperative recovery while creating a comfortable, private environment for patients during their stay.
Interior design elements and integrated amenities further enhance the patient experience, with private televisions, device charging stations, secure personal storage and European-style showers incorporated into each room. Telemedicine capabilities also allow physicians to remotely connect with and monitor recovering patients, supporting greater flexibility and continuity of care.
Through thoughtful planning and design, the Short Stay Unit provides Rochester General Hospital with an efficient, technology-enabled care environment that supports staff operations while helping patients comfortably and safely transition from surgery to recovery and home.
