CPL provided architecture and interior design services for the adaptive reuse project, helping reimagine the decommissioned retail space as a welcoming, patient-centered healthcare environment that brings pediatric and primary care, dental care, ophthalmology, radiology, laboratory services and pharmacy services together under one roof.
The design prioritizes the patient experience while supporting the complex operational needs of a multidisciplinary care environment. Guided by principles of the Andersen Healthcare Utilization Model, the planning incorporates an onstage/offstage approach that separates patient-facing areas from staff circulation and clinical operations. This allows care teams to work efficiently behind the scenes while creating a calmer, more intuitive experience for patients. Private patient rooms, in-room checkout, self-check-in kiosks and clearly organized circulation further simplify the care journey and support patient privacy.
Interior environments were designed to reinforce a sense of comfort, clarity and well-being. Natural light fills waiting areas, while clean, contemporary finishes are balanced with warm wood tones, bold graphics and strategic color accents. Integrated wayfinding—including distinct floor patterns—helps patients intuitively navigate the facility and easily identify key destinations.
Sustainability was also integral to the transformation. By adaptively reusing an existing commercial building and incorporating sustainable design strategies throughout the renovation, the project achieved LEED Silver certification.
The result gives new purpose to an underutilized property while creating a centralized healthcare destination focused on accessibility, operational efficiency and an improved experience for patients, families and care teams.
