Building on a decade-long relationship with the Mint Museum, CPL served as Architect-of-Record for the development of Mint Museum Uptown, a 150,000 sq. ft. cultural destination in the heart of Charlotte. Designed in association with Machado and Silvetti Associates, the facility significantly expanded the Museum’s capacity to exhibit, preserve and celebrate its collections of American Art, Contemporary Art and Contemporary Craft.

Beyond its galleries and specialized collection storage areas, the Museum brings together a diverse range of public and institutional functions, including educational spaces, administrative offices, special event venues and food service amenities. A café overlooking the adjacent plaza further connects the Museum experience to the surrounding urban environment, helping establish the facility as both a cultural institution and an active community destination.
As a central component of a major mixed-use development, the Museum was delivered within an unusually complex architectural and urban context. The larger development incorporates a corporate office tower, condominium tower, performing arts theater, a second museum housing a private collection, retail space and an eight-level below-grade parking structure. CPL’s role required extensive coordination across multiple design teams, disciplines and project stakeholders to successfully integrate the Museum’s specialized program and technical requirements within the broader development.
The completed facility establishes a prominent civic presence in Uptown Charlotte while providing the Mint Museum with the flexible, purpose-built environments needed to support exhibitions, collections, education, events and community engagement for years to come.
