The expansion introduces a 45-bed adult emergency department, 62 private pre- and post-operative bays, 28 operating rooms and intensive care units, significantly strengthening its ability to deliver high-acuity treatment.
As needs for surgical and emergency services rose, several critical laboratory functions—including the blood bank, critical care laboratory and pathology frozen section services—were located too far from the operating rooms to support urgent procedural needs.
To address these challenges, CPL’s Healthcare Practice team partnered with HKS Inc. to provide architectural and interior design services for the renovation and relocation of key laboratory functions. The work focused on strengthening agencies between laboratory and operating rooms while reconfiguring laboratory spaces to improve operational flow, expand equipment capacity and support high-volume diagnostic testing.
Delivered through a phased approach within an active hospital environment, the project required close coordination among designers, contractors and hospital staff to maintain uninterrupted laboratory operations while advancing both short- and long-term organizational goals.
Today, the completed laboratory environments improve integration across surgical, emergency and critical care services while strengthening the Medical Center’s ability to deliver timely diagnostic support. By bringing these critical testing capabilities closer to the point of care, the project supports faster clinical decision-making, reduces delays between diagnosis and treatment and enhances delivery of coordinated care.
