As time passed, the park’s aging infrastructure and outdated amenities could no longer accommodate the community’s evolving needs. To address these challenges, Broome County launched a comprehensive revitalization effort to modernize the facility, transforming it into a premier softball complex for games and tournaments.
Extensive engagement was instrumental in shaping the renovation plan, ensuring it addressed the diverse needs and aspirations of the community. Insights from local stakeholders helped CPL’s project team identify key priorities, such as modernizing the fields (two of which meet NCAA standards, improving safety measures and enhancing overall functionality.

This collaborative input drove a design that includes new artificial turf fields, upgraded dugouts, fencing and backstops.
The project also features advanced LED lighting systems across all four fields, enabling night games and extending the playing season.
Additional amenities, such as new batting cages, bleacher pads, pedestrian walkways and improved storm drainage, further enhance the experience for players, coaches and spectators alike.

In addition to hosting the SUNY Broome Hornets and local high school games, Greenlight Networks Grand Slam Park has also been selected as the venue for the New York State High School Softball Championship tournaments from 2025 to 2027.
These modern upgrades honor the park’s legacy while positioning it as a premier destination for state and regional events, driving economic growth and community pride for years to come.
