Dietz Stadium has long been the heart of Kingston life, serving as a stage for K-12 district sports, semi-professional competitions, regional showcases and milestones like high school graduation. But as the years passed, its aging infrastructure fell behind, no longer matching the city’s vision for a welcoming public arena.

The turning point came when local leaders forged an intermunicipal agreement with the school district, unlocking grant eligibility and guaranteeing shared reinvestment in the stadium’s future. Our practice team was consequently engaged to lead a full-scale revitalization, providing the entire spectrum of A/E services.

Major improvements unfolded in phases. Phase one overhauled the existing aquatic center with contemporary filtration systems, a rehabilitated pool house and a lively splash pad, complemented by landscaping and grounds beautification.
Phase two broadened the scope dramatically: new gateways and ticket buildings enhanced arrival experiences; modernized seating and locker rooms boosted safety and comfort; and upgraded turf and track systems elevated play. Additional features—such as practice fields, a basketball court, expanded parking, sustainable stormwater infrastructure and a redesigned bus loop—further strengthened functionality and resilience.

From the outset, community input shaped design. Bilingual public workshops, presentations and student-led discussions brought diverse voices into the planning process, including K-12 administrators, the YMCA, elected officials and area residents.
The project was fueled by Kingston’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative award and bolstered by grants from New York State’s Green Infrastructure and Climate Smart Communities programs.
Today, Dietz Stadium is more than a sports facility—it’s a permanent home for the Kingston Stockade soccer team; a community gathering spot; and a catalyst for economic growth. Local businesses benefit from renewed activity and tourism, while residents enjoy a vibrant civic asset that embodies Kingston’s exciting next chapter.
