As part of its 2018 Capital Improvements Project, Belfast Central School District partnered with CPL to transform an existing multipurpose room into a dedicated performing arts auditorium designed to better support student performances, instruction and community use.

Previously, the school’s performing arts program relied on a small stage within the multipurpose room. The renovation significantly expanded the capabilities of the space with a larger, professional stage and integrated improvements to lighting, acoustics and supporting building systems. Design solutions were carefully coordinated within the existing facility to create an environment capable of meeting the technical demands of theatrical and musical performances while enhancing the experience for performers and audiences alike.
Flexibility was central to the design. A retractable seating system allows the auditorium to transition from a traditional performance configuration to an open-floor environment, enabling the District to accommodate a broader range of academic, social and community activities within the same footprint.
The completed auditorium provides Belfast Central School with a dedicated setting for performance and creative expression while maximizing the value and versatility of an existing campus space. Through an integrated architecture and engineering approach, the project transformed an underutilized multipurpose environment into a lasting resource for students, educators and the broader community.
