City of Suwanee Celebrates the Grand Opening of Town Center on Main and DeLay Nature Park

SUWANEE, GA—The City of Suwanee officially opened the long-anticipated Town Center on Main and DeLay Nature Park, marking the completion of a visionary greenspace project that has been over two decades in the making. The ribbon-cutting ceremony brought together city officials, Gwinnett County residents and the CPL team to celebrate this transformative addition to the vibrant downtown area.

The City acquired the property over 20 years ago to help alleviate demand on the community, with a master plan formally developed in 2016.

Through collaborative workshops with local officials, CPL envisioned the more than 20-acre space at the intersection of Suwanee Dam Road and Main Street. A striking, 1,200-foot bridge connects the public library to a hilltop section, offering views of two expansive lawns and the existing Town Center—another CPL-designed landmark.

In addition, the park boasts the 10,000 sq. ft., community-built PlayTown Suwanee play area, canopies, sand volleyball courts, two water features, a veterans’ memorial and a reading “grotto” adjacent to the library. An existing pedestrian tunnel provides safe passage to Station Park beneath active railroad tracks, while Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant ramps ensure accessibility for all visitors.

The layout is intentionally flexible, preserving open spaces for future programming and art installations as the community evolves.

The Suwanee Circle food truck and market concept also debuted at the grand opening, offering a variety of food and beverage options alongside live music and entertainment. The future market will feature large-screen TVs for sports, trivia nights, silent discos and school events, making it a lively community hub.

“The park was designed to complement the existing Suwanee Town Center while addressing the needs of the growing population,” said CPL Project Manager Brian Miller, P.E., S.E.. “We wanted to create a space that would not only host the city’s many festivals and events but also provide a peaceful retreat connecting both residents and visitors. It’s incredibly rewarding to see this project come to fruition, knowing it will be enjoyed by so many.”

Serving as Architect / Engineer of Record, CPL provided architecture, landscape architecture and engineering services, working with longtime partner Reeves Young (Construction Manager) to deliver the exciting regional amenity.

The $26 million project officially opened to the public on August 24th, coinciding with the ceremony.
