SNELLVILLE, GA — On May 1, 2024, the CPL team joined county officials and members of the local community to celebrate the groundbreaking of the highly anticipated Lenora Park Community Recreation Center.
With population growth in mind, the County aimed to increase available community activities by transforming a public gymnasium into a recreation center for Snellville and beyond. The plan includes expanding the existing facility at Lenora Park on Lenora Church Road and renovating it with new finishes, equipment, a game room, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant upgrades, electrical and mechanical systems and more.
The light and airy addition, which nearly doubles the size of the facility, will feature a dance studio with a performance stage; an art workshop for painting and ceramics; a public gallery space; upgraded lockers and restrooms; a game room; dedicated administrative offices; and a community room that can be subdivided as needed, with a serving kitchen available to the public for parties and other events.
Additionally, a mezzanine-level walking track will enable visitors to walk around the building perimeter while observing activities in the welcome area.
“We’re collaborating with the County and area residents to design the Center in alignment with the city’s tightknit culture,” explained CPL Project Manager Kirk Edwards, AIA, NCARB. “It’s the ‘missing piece’ for our community, and once complete, will provide a variety of activities for all ages and abilities, ensuring everyone has the resources they need to truly connect and thrive.”
Serving as Architect of Record, CPL is working with Palacio (Estimating) and Reeves Young (Construction Manager) to design and deliver the exciting regional amenity, while also joining forces with longtime partner Merrick & Company to champion sustainability and guide the project toward required Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certifications.
Funding for the work comes from the County’s 2017 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) program.
The project is expected to open to the public in 2026.
