Evergreen Health Breaks Ground on New Kensington-Bailey Community Care Center

BUFFALO, NY — On September 12, 2024, CPL joined the Evergreen Health system and members of the local community to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Kensington-Bailey Health and Community Center, a highly anticipated medical campus that will improve healthcare access on Buffalo’s East Side.

For decades, residents of the Kensington-Bailey neighborhood have faced critical service gaps, with the nearest facility a difficult 30-minute walk away. Evergreen Health therefore sought to address these longstanding inequities by bringing treatment options directly to the area.

Situated on a previously abandoned parcel at the intersection of Kensington and Bailey Avenues, the three-story outpatient facility will include a comprehensive clinic with ample exam rooms, a pharmacy, labs and mental health services. It will also integrate administrative offices, a food pantry and flexible spaces for senior and community organizations. Moreover, it will house Community Access Services (CAS), an affiliate that has been providing residents with HIV testing and nutrition education since 2003.

Aligned with Evergreen Health’s emphasis on community involvement, the Center’s design has been thoughtfully tailored to reflect the aspirations of the people it will serve, incorporating feedback from public engagement sessions.

“This is more than just a building—it’s a beacon of hope and a commitment to elevating quality of life for our most vulnerable friends and neighbors,” noted CPL Northeast Region Healthcare Practice Leader Michelle Trott, AIA, NCARB, ACHA, who served as the project’s Principal-in-Charge. “We’re proud to play a role in delivering this vital resource to Buffalo’s East Side, and look forward to seeing the lasting impact it will have on the community.”

Serving as Architect of Record, CPL is working alongside the Uniland Development Company (Construction Manager), CAS and Evergreen Health to bring this vision to life.

The facility is slated to open in 2025.
