CPL Celebrates the Promotion of David Alder, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP

RALEIGH, NC — CPL, a full-service design firm serving public and private-sector clients for more than 46 years, is pleased to announce the promotion of David Alder, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP to the role of Principal. This well-deserved elevation from Principal Associate aligns with the firm’s strategic vision to strengthen CPL’s leadership bench and continue to expand in growing markets.

As Principal, Alder will be responsible for providing architectural and planning leadership to the firm’s Raleigh office, engaging with agile project teams who are actively building CPL’s Science and Technology (S&T) portfolio of work throughout North Carolina and beyond.

With versatility in mind, the S&T team specializes in designing flexible spaces for advanced exploration—where innovation fuels the development of solutions to some of the world’s greatest challenges. From high containment spaces to medical research labs or teaching facilities, Alder will oversee the planning for and designing of scientific environments for a wide range of clients.

“David’s expertise enables him to comprehend even the most elaborate user needs on a more personal level,’ said Rick Henry, P.E., President at CPL. “His breadth of experience and inclusive leadership style will pave the way for our S&T practice, reveal new avenues of opportunity, and establish CPL as a design frontrunner for the burgeoning technical and biomedical industries.”

With a career spanning nearly three decades, Alder has led numerous high-profile S&T assignments, making strong connections with clients and industry peers along the way. His recent contributions at CPL include a new partnership with North Carolina State University to design a 4,000 sq. ft. swine recovery facility at their School of Veterinary Medicine, as well as enduring relationships with Wake Forest University, the University of North Carolina at CharlotteRTI International and Syngenta.

Alder’s technical rigor, interpersonal skills and eagerness to bring evolutionary concepts to life will serve him well in his new role. The firm looks forward to supporting his professional growth and development as well as his drive to deliver flexible facilities that keep pace with the changing realities of the scientific community.
