OLEAN, NY – On Friday, October 22, 2021, CPL, together with the City of Olean, NYSDOT, and members of the community, attended a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of Walkable Olean, Phase II. The innovative pedestrian safety improvement and revitalization project was developed to calm vehicle traffic, promote pedestrian use or “walkability”, and renew the City’s downtown area.
Important elements for the $1.5 million project included the addition of new bicycle lanes for cyclists, an enhanced roadway structure to help quiet and/or re-route downtown vehicle transportation, traffic signal upgrades to include pedestrians provisions, drainage improvements, and widened, multi-use sidewalks to promote pedestrian and bicycle access in a beautiful, park-like setting.
To deliver this impactful transit solution to the community, CPL provided project management, engineering and landscape design services alongside project team partners, Terracon; Quality Counts, LLC; R.K. Hite & Co. Inc., SJB Services, Inc. CPL also provided construction administration and inspection services relating to the construction activities performed by D&H Excavating, Inc.
“We are proud to have worked with the City and project partners to deliver this vibrant downtown transformation,” said CPL Project Manager, Jennifer Michniewicz, P.E., PTOE. “The improvements help ensure safe walking and bicycling, while also providing an appealing destination that the community and surrounding area will seek.”
The project was awarded Transportation Project of the Year by the NY Upstate Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (2021).
